WASHINGTON D.C. The Nuclear Innovation Alliance (NIA) shared the following statement in response to the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) committee's vote in favor of confirming NRC Chair Christopher Hanson to serve for another term. This statement may be attributed to NIA Executive Director Judi Greenwald:

"Numerous important matters are before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) that are critical to the future of nuclear power, and the NRC functions best with a full slate of Commissioners led by an experienced Chairman. Chair Hanson understands the importance of nuclear energy for meeting our climate and energy challenge. He has promoted effective and efficient licensing reviews, prioritized agency independence, and helped maintain public confidence in the NRC as a trusted safety regulator. Under Chair Hanson's leadership, the NRC has prioritized safety, transparency, and public accountability. His continued tenure would reinforce these values and ensure that the NRC remains a trusted safety regulator, which is why NIA supports the EPW committee's vote. Looking ahead, it is critical that the full Senate votes to re-confirm Chair Hanson before his term ends in June."
