WASHINGTON D.C. The Nuclear Innovation Alliance (NIA) shared the following statement in response to the confirmation of Douglas Weaver as NRC Commissioner. This statement may be attributed to NIA President and CEO Judi Greenwald:
NIA applauds the recent confirmation of Douglas Weaver as a Commissioner for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Commissioner Weaver will contribute a unique perspective with his Navy, NRC & industry experience.
During his Senate Environment and Public Works committee hearing on 12/4/25, Commissioner Weaver emphasized that speed cannot come at the cost of safety. He acknowledged the need for more risk-informed regulation and the steps NRC has already taken . We believe Commissioner Weaver is well-positioned to advance risk-informed, efficient regulation and help the commission to make its safety decisions independently.
