Deep decarbonization models generally have limited consideration of the unique characteristics of advanced reactors. This report identifies relevant future for energy system modelers to include advanced nuclear energy in future modeling efforts. For more information on how deep decarbonization models mischaracterize advanced nuclear energy and the challenges answered by this report, please refer to our blog post, Deep Decarbonization Models Miss the Mark on Advanced Nuclear Energy.

NIA's joint public comment, along with Third Way, ClearPath, Breakthrough Institute, and Good Energy Collective to the NRC on Part 53 preliminary proposed rule language.

Building on past work at NIA, this memo describes how the Department of Energy can leverage milestones-based approaches to funding demonstration projects for new technologies. It reviews the benefits of such approaches and calls for internal champions at DOE to embrace an investor mindset to technology demonstration.

This brief provides an overview of options for fee reform at the NRC to increase public investment in regulatory infrastructure and increase regulatory efficiency to accelerate nuclear innovation.

Nuclear Innovation Alliance submitted this Statement for the Record for the United States Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing on “The Infrastructure Needs of the U.S. Energy Sector, Western Water and Public Lands, and Consideration of a Legislative Proposal.” NIA strongly supports the proposed legislation which would build a strong foundation for advanced reactors to contribute to climate mitigation.

In conjunction with a new report on licensing fee reform at the NRC, the Nuclear Innovation Alliance hosted an event to discuss its findings. The webinar was moderated by former NRC Commissioner Stephen Burns, Senior Fellow at Third Way. It featured panelists Alex Gilbert of the Nuclear Innovation Alliance, Caroline Cochran of Oklo, and Peter Hastings of Kairos Power. It provides an overview of the report and develops ideas for fee reform to promote advanced nuclear energy innovation. The report can be found here: Report
